I’m not generally a fan of Seth McFarlane-style humor, so I almost didn’t watch this show. I’m very glad I was bored one night and gave it a try. While I could still do without some of the d**k jokes, those sort of subside after a few episodes, and the show is more dramatic and thoughtful than a mere Galaxy Quest-inspired sci-fi comedy show, which is how it was marketed. I love the show’s optimism and good-hearted spirit. We need a lot more of that, and The Orville does a great job at it. Just dial back a tad on the teen boy humor for Season 2, will you please Mr. McFarlane? P.S. I have no idea why critics didn’t like this show. Usually they at least have a point, but in this case no. They totally didn’t get it.

The first couple episodes started out pretty weak, I thought, but it wasn’t long before it was the show I was actually looking forward to seeing the most all week. I really hope having a starting ground laid down means the 2nd season will be even better because I really enjoyed the stories and it gets funnier as the season goes on.
  • I love it. It’s like the original but for married people

This has the spirit of the original first Star Trek but with a lot more contemporary humor and modern mores. It’s not trying to be Star Wars, or a preachy moralizing completely-ignore-human-nature seminar from your U.C. Berkeley college professor. It’s just fun. The score in particular is fun if you are good a spotting musical references. A lot of clever, knowing quotes. It’s a comfy, sane show that is good to settle down to.

As a big Seth MacFarlane fan I went into this show expecting a funny Star Trek spoof. After watching the first episode, my expectations were met but I stuck with it and I’m so glad I did. The storylines are very creative and they’re not afraid to bring real emotion and issues that mirror the issues of today. It’s a show that focuses on story first and it even funnier for it. Now after having watched the entire first season, I’m anxiously waiting for season 2. Highly recommended.

I paid for the season pass that announced 13 episodes.. yet now I find out I paid for only 12? Rip off!! Great show but they lied about episode count for season one...

For those of us who grew up devoted to Star Trek Next Generation, but also like family guy, this is a fun version of the two. Still has some of the heart, gravitas and adventure of Star Trek but with the stupid humor of Seth McFarlane... fun! 😄
